Research
NODE is developing a refined research framework of HSI servingness to evaluate the impact of NSF HSI-Program projects. We are building a database of measures from across the NSF HSI-Program portfolio of over 280 programs. We will utilize a data driven approach to develop tools that will be adaptable to diverse contexts across the US.
Data collection and analytic templates will be made available and accessible tools for widespread use among the entire HSI community.
Frameworks for Culturally Sustaining Research
HSIs represent a heterogeneous collection of institutions with a diverse array of students, resources, and practices. Evaluation of programs across HSIs can reflect this rich diversity to be more applicable to the goals and approaches at different HSI institutional types. Our approach employs three contextualizing frameworks to address this:
- Institutional Diversity
Differences in institutions can impact how they operate and what they prioritize.
- HSI Servingness
How institution missions focus on Hispanic populations is important context.
- Intersectionality
Institutions and their students have differing multiple identities across different social factors.
